ARGENTINA, THE STENCHING TENNIS STATUS QUO AND A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.

By Javier Palenque

For tennis and sports people in general, Argentina is a country to be reckoned with and respected, everyone thinks of the latest FIFA world champions (soccer), in individualities, Leo Messi, Diego Maradona, Guillermo Vilas, Gabriela Sabatini, Juan Martin del Potro, El “Peque” (love his record given his size) and others. They all come from a country that was once wealthy and where people wanted to emigrate to at the beginning of the century and now one where today people desperately want to leave, especially the young. Of course, USTA people probably think Argentina is a state somewhere, or a country in Europe, and not in South America, they also probably think that they do not speak Mexican, of course not knowing that Mexican is not a language but a nation in North America, you heard me right. I am not kidding.

The point of this article is to also enlighten you about a presidential candidate in Argentina, an outsider who is against the status quo that has destroyed a nation of such capable and friendly individuals. What is strange is that the stronghold that the terrible politicians have over the psyche of the people is such that they end up supporting the status quo. Much like tennis’ status quo, they do nothing for the sport and keep their jobs and milk the sport for their benefit, while allowing it to slowly disappear…
