HOW THE USTA FAILS TENNIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. By Javier Palenque
Most of my readers know by now that I have been trying to steer the false not-for-profit to be a real not for profit, and to grow the game based on principles and values that are cemented on two pillars:
- We must be a not-for-profit to gain the trust and confidence of people, not use it to deceive people.
- We must have the moral obligation to leave the sport in better shape than we received it, so it lasts for generations. That is what is responsible, decent, honorable, and correct.
To me that is what a good person would do, of course, the USTA does neither and the failures of community tennis are documented in my 235 articles written over five years now. What I write are the facts. This is indisputable. I also understand that for the USTA people, community tennis is boring, makes no money and it cannot compare itself to the US Open which is flashy, expensive, and for a few days a shining object. The problem the USTA people have is that because they see tennis being played, they think it has to do with tennis. No people, it has nothing to do with tennis it has to do with the entertainment, tennis is like a story to be told, with new characters every so many years.
