It is Time for Servant Leadership at the USTA By Javier Palenque

Few of us can travel all over the world, live in seventy countries, work in just as many, and through time discover that nationalities and borders are just ideas and that there is a better way to look at the world and its organizations and serve our society with knowledge and skill. After a few years, one inevitably wants to put all that knowledge and experience to use for those who will never have the same opportunities and pursue a bigger goal to serve as many people as is humanly possible. To me, it seems like the right thing to do. Of course, this makes more sense if the service takes place in a not-for-profit organization and one that promotes health and well-being to our citizens. I am talking about you the USTA. Currently, the USTA is without a CEO, and I want to explain why servant leadership is needed now more than ever to steer the organization on the right path to grow our beloved game and in the process serve our nation and transform the USTA for the better. Take it from an old and dated organization to a modern serving nonprofit that people want to be part of and belong in every zip code in the nation

If you are new to this idea, the idea is not new to the business world. Robert Greenleaf popularized the term in 1970 when he wrote his famous essay, The Servant as Leader, in which he stated,
