The USTA needs a new paradigm shift: Why business as usual won’t cut it anymore for consumers.
By Javier Palenque
A paradigm shift is defined as an important change that happens when the usual way of thinking about or doing something is replaced by a new and different way — because the original way was not working. However, people and systems resist change, so paradigm shifts can take an awfully long time . . . unless the change benefits the users themselves. Ouch! this seems like an impossible task for the brilliant USTA since the problem is so obvious to everyone, the leadership chooses to ignore it. What is the problem you may ask?
The problem is the mindset of the leadership and the lack of accountability of the organization, add to that the fact that too many people are in power positions that are completely unqualified for, and to top it off, the mantra in the progressive place is “politics is king”. To make matters even worse, no one has the guts to call the place out or its leaders and do what is needed. What is needed? a paradigm shift, a new way of doing business, and care about the sport for all. Please realize this roadblock, why would the employees want to change what works for them? High pay, no accountability, and no great skills required.
