Time to give Craig Tiley a piece of humble pie.
By Javier Palenque
In America for some reasons that I cannot understand, the media dislikes the best tennis player in the world. Novak Djokovic is of course, my favorite player. First, because he beats all the players constantly, and even when he plays poorly, he is superior to most. Of the top three, he has a winning record against Nadal and Federer. Add to that remarkable accomplishment he is also trying to unite the players against the power 7 ( GS, ATP, WTA, ITF) for the benefit of the sport and the players, especially those ranked below the 100 rankings, this alone has immense merit.
What is happening now to my favorite player is simply horrific. Poor world number one was used as a pawn by Tiley and Australia’s PM in a showcase of power that Tiley had the poor sense of not reading correctly. He overreached and over promised and could not deliver. The arrogance with which he seems to carry affairs and promises fooled Djokovic who never imagined he would be entangled in a global embarrassment for him, his sponsors, the sport, Australia, and of course Tiley himself. A gross miscalculation of epic proportions to the detriment of the star and opening a window to the way Tiley works and thinks. Not a pretty picture I can assure you.
The way I read this event is as a small window into the way Mr. Tiley operates…
