In life and sports, good coaches know that we are our worst enemies, when I teach I always tell the kids, that your biggest opponent is not the guy/gal you lose to but yourself, take a good hard look at yourself and ask some basic questions: Did you try your best? did you work hard enough to improve that service? how many hours did you spend watching videos of those you admire, did you do all the extra work that was given to you? in 9 out of 10 cases, kids are not so focused and of course, fail to see themselves as the culprits of their setbacks.

When institutions become so large and so reluctant to change, they become obsolete, and in fact, it is their management that leads them in the direction of failure. Take as a great example Blockbuster, once the king of video and now just a few years later nobody remembers them, remember Nokia? or Motorola phones? Eastern airlines? Kodak? etc. The corporate world is full of examples of poorly run companies that only through their arrogance and hubris have only allowed their companies to destroy shareholder value and disappear from the marketplace.

In the sports world, tennis, this same limited mindset prevails, and we are on the same path to failure for sure. The real data tells you so, the one the USTA does not show.
